Social Enterprise Ignition Awards now closed
The University positions social entrepreneurship at the heart of its culture and infrastructure. It links together our three core strategic goals to make positive contributions to our society and an institution-wide commitment to social responsibility.
We will support staff, academics and research students seeking to establish new social ventures as a means to increase the social benefit of our research and enhance the contribution of the University to the wider community. Our activities are strategically and intrinsically linked to the Universities goals. The ‘Manchester 2020 Strategic Plan for The University of Manchester’ articulates the University’s commitment to helping solve global challenges and contributing to the social and economic success of local, national and international communities.
UMIP is able to support Social Entrepreneurs with funding, dedicated business planning sessions and workshops, 1-2-1 support, mentoring opportunities, events and much more.
We are here to facilitate your journey from idea to enterprise. If you have thought of a solution to help people on campus, in your local community or further afield then we will help you to develop this. All we ask is that you are committed and passionate about your idea.
Social Ignition Awards:
funding of between £500 – £2,000
Available for individuals to test the feasibility of their ideas. This might mean finding out if their idea is viable, learning more about what is needed and trying the project on a small scale. Alternatively, it’s an opportunity to take forward an idea that has some project planning already in place. The funding enables individuals to progress at their own pace with the right support to develop the entrepreneurial skills they will require to, in some cases, take on larger projects.
